How We Hygge

Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian concept that encapsulates coziness, community, and contentment. These cultures cultivate hygge -- in practice, that means cuddling up next to a fireplace on a cold night, sharing a candlelit dinner with friends, or cozying up to breakfast in bed. Simple things that make you warm and happy.

Hygge is also what drives our birth center, both in physical space and the spirit of our care. Our birthing suites and living room were designed with coziness in mind. It’s why we installed a fireplace in our waiting area, and gave our suites warm lighting and a soothing color scheme. We want you to feel a sense of safety and relaxed contentment when you’re within our halls -- and we worked hard to make sure our space reflected that. But community is essential to hygge, too, and that’s what we’ve built into our practice. You’ll have a community of practitioners to support you through your pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood -- practitioners who not only provide the care you need, but work with you to ease your discomforts, allay your worries, and get you the information you need to feel empowered in your decision-making. And you’ll also have a community of fellow parents-to-be, who are walking the same road at the same time.

We like this concept so much, we try to bring it into all aspects of our lives. Here are some of our favorite ways to practice hygge, especially on cold snowy days in Colorado!

Jessica, Acupuncturist: “Having friends over for dinner, sitting in a sauna, going to the hot springs, spending screen-free time with my kids, cooking.”


Tara, Owner: “My favorite hygge moment is a cozy blanket in front of the fire with a cup of something warm or a glass of wine and my book de jour.”


Miki, Owner: “Being in the mountains, with a warm blanket, cup of tea, fireplace, and watching a great movie.”
